Washing and cleaning of plastic drums and IBC containers (R3)

Large quantities of plastic canisters, drums and IBC containers are used in industry and agriculture to store and transport liquid raw materials, oils, chemicals and other products. After they have been emptied, some of the material previously stored in them usually remains on the walls. For this reason, without cleaning they are not suitable for direct further treatment or recovery. The purpose of washing is to remove these material residues and contaminants. Properly cleaned plastic is much easier and safer to handle. Depending on their condition and quality, the plastic parts can become usable raw material again. New plastic products can later be made from the processed plastic. This way a large plastic container does not have to be lost entirely simply because an industrial substance was once stored in it. Cleaning and recovery reduce both the amount of plastic waste generated and the demand for new plastic raw materials.
